Humber College provides a feeling of community and is my home away from home. I got comfortable here very quickly. My favourite part of the media communications program are the people I call my family. Each day on campus is exciting and gets better when I know I am spending these years of my studies with these amazing people. I am pleased with the media school because it allows us students to showcase their work and network with future employers. In my program, media students are always encouraged to create a variety of pieces. It varies from designing advertisements to building websites and producing films, all these plays a vital role and allows me to develop my portfolio.
Coming from a British curriculum school transitioning into North American school was slightly challenging at first but after a month, I was all on board and ready to push forward. I took part in the Summer Abroad Exchange program in Gujarat, India for one month. I explored sites including the Taj Mahal, the Laxmi Vilas Palace, Sursagar Lake, and Mahatma Gandhi’s house. My experience in India allowed me to gain a lot of knowledge about Indian culture and society. It shaped me to think differently and live more positively after seeing the harsh reality that millions of people face worldwide. "My trip abroad proved to me that outside of our small bubbles that we are enclosed in, there are far greater experiences to live through and journeys to embark on. "
My advice for future students would be to research about your programs, the different services on campus, and read through the course outline and determine whether it is the right program for you. Also, consider getting involved as a volunteer or work part-time on campus. If you do all of this, in addition to your hard work and focus on your studies, your time at Humber will be beneficial and memorable.
